Come join the LA Chapter of Camp Monkey Sox and the Volcano Worshippers for an unforgettable, all ages event to raise money for the Kidsville Animal Crackers Art Car and Ringtropolis Interactive Apparatus. Please share this invite and help spread the word, regardless!
This will be an all-ages event, with activities ranging from hooping and fire lessons a-la Suzy LeeLo and her Fire wielding friends, squirt gun battle royal, music from some of Burning Man and LA's top DJ's (including Hobotech, Protocol 7, and a Bassnectar dedication set by 11 year old DJ Special K), as well as an all-you-can-eat ice cream social, silks performance, full bar, food, and good vibes galore. Raffle tix for amazing prizes with your $10.00 donation/entry fee and we encourage you to bring your kids and friends to share in the Burning Man Spirit as we prepare for yet another trip to the playa.
The Kidsville Animal Crackers Art Car Project arose from a 2008 incident in which our friends, Judi, Jonathan, and son Dexter, were rudely kicked off an art car and left stranded in deep playa. Their offense? They were making the DJ uncomfortable in his quest to get women to remove their tops to get drinks by their mere existence on the vehicle. Hence, with Kidsville growing to become one of the largest camps at Burning Man, we felt it was time to commission our very own art car to ferry kids of all ages out and about without relying on others. The Animal Crackers "box" will hold up to 20 kids and parents, be equipped with a misting system to keep everyone cool, and a thumping sound system to blast annoying kids tunes at ear splitting levels all day long. To gain entry to the car, one simply needs to be a kid or accompanied by one.
Ringtropolis is the brainchild of Volcano Worshippers Camp, and is a set of rings held aloft by an ingenious wire mechanism, allowing one to swing in any direction safely and in concert to music. Anyone and everyone will be welcome to "swing" by and participate in this exciting apparatus.
About our artists:
Hobotech is depression era techno - contemporary music that nods to a forgotten America, celebrating half-smoked cigars and steaming cauldrons of stew. Hobotech is a collective of musicians and artists in New York. He's played clubs and festivals all over the US and traveled with Bassnectar on his 2010 spring tour.
DJ Braden: One of LA's most innovative musical talents, DJ Braden's eclectic mix of electro beats has been infusing venues large and intimate alike from the playa of Burning Man to New York, LA, and all points in-between.
Jacques the Ripper: Jacques is a native of Bordeaux, France and resides in Los Angeles. A multi dimensional dj able to navigate though all sorts of genres of electronic music. He started his own label: Heargasm Productions in 2007 with 3 mix releases: Ultra Deep Chill (Vol 1), Ultra Deep Chill (Vol 2) and World Heargasms. www.heargasmproductions.com
DJ Oscure: Since the time hip-hop music and break-dancing first hit L.A.streets two decades ago, Oscar Gamboa II A.K.A. Oski-D, or the infamous Oscure has been one of the integral pioneers of the LA Underground scene. Sharing a devotion to music and a passion for its perpetuity, Oscure and several of his friends established the party crew B.A. Boiz in 1988. B.A Boiz threw small warehouse events and created the highly revered second room at the former after-hours "What?" in 1990. Becoming a resident at the longest running L.A. party-F.A.M.I.L.Y solidified his position as one of L.A.’s premier underground DJs. Spinning hip-hop and funk at this weekly event gained him recognition among his contemporaries for the distinct flavor of music and creating an incredible atmosphere. http://www.oscure.com/ .
DJ Protocol7: has been passionately mixing and creating music for over ten years, primarily in the NorCal rave scene. An early member of the Evolution Entertainment crew and a founder of AMEF Radio, his San Francisco influenced style of uplifting and epic progressive trance will take you on a journey you won’t soon forget.
DJ Special K: aka Kealii Carl Denchasy, was inspired by Lorin Ashton - Bassnectar - on his first trip to Burning Man in 2005 at the age of five years old. Since then, Kealii has taken up music in many forms, including guitar and electronic composition via Ableton and has played kids-oriented gigs throughout the LA and OC areas. This will be his first performance for kids AND adults, so he's chosen to dedicate his musical selections to Bassnectar via a retrospective of Lorin's career. He will also be playing sets on the Kidsville Art Car all over the playa at this year's Burning Man festival.
This event is free before 9pm, with a $10.00 entry after 9pm. Check back here often or visit our official website at http://www.volcanokids.org/ for more information or to make a donation if you can't attend.
